Opening in late 2009, the ninth property in The Peninsula Hotels’ portfolio fronts the historic Bund with spectacular views of the Bund, Huangpu River, Pudong and the gardens of the former British Consulate. The hotel blends with the historic architecture of its landmark neighbours along the Bund.

The opening of The Peninsula Shanghai heralds the return of parent company, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited to one of its two founding roots, as it owned and operated four of Shanghai’s most celebrated hotels - The Kalee, Majestic, Palace and Astor House Hotels - in the early 20th century. The Peninsula Shanghai will offer 235 rooms and suites. Inspired by the Art Deco ( 1920s – 1930s ) and “Golden Age” when Shanghai was regarded as the design of the Paris of the East, guestrooms and suites blend traditional Peninsula standards of luxury and state-of-the-art technology with historical references in a stylish and glamourous setting.
